The idea that is fizzBus began formulating on a family visit to MineCon 2015. Captivated by our children's enthusiasm for Minecraft, we remembered the old consoles and games we used to play in our childhoods and the impact they had on our formative years. We began to imagine how we could offer a fun computing tech experience at festivals, events and parties. We were also keen to bring this experience to people in a way that had a lower impact on our environment using modern sustainable technologies to fulfil our power needs where possible. To this end the concept of a mobile, solar powered experience, self contained in an old bus was formed and the fizzBus project was born. fizzBus is going to be (as far as we know) the UK's first solar powered retro-gaming fun bus!
Currently fizzBus has a large collection of electronic retro-tech gaming consoles, emulators and games dating from the 1970's to the very early 2000's. These are available for hire in different packages to suit your event, party, wedding or club. We are also building on a small collection of early home computers and will be offering these for hire too as they become available.
So, does fizzBus have a bus?...YES we do. 'Olive' is our 1991 Leyland Olympian, Alexander RH bodied, double-decker. Classic vehicles is another passion of ours so Olive, being of British Leyland origin was the perfect choice. She originally went into service for Lothian Buses in Edinburgh and passed to Konectbus in Norfolk in the 00's. We purchased her from her third owners, Black and White coaches of Winchester in late 2015. She is currently being refurbished and revamped to create an great event space for you to enjoy all our retro-gaming tech.
A solar panel array will be installed to charge a battery bank contained in the bus. Retro-consoles have lower power requirements than modern high-end computers and TV/monitor screens have been carefully chosen to be of the lowest power consumption possible. The fit out will reuse and recycle materials where possible.
